One of my college friends, Sarah Cunningham, is doing this super cool Great Big Friendship Blog. She has challenged people to write a blog post about one of their friends and why they are thankful for them. Seeing this, I was inspired to write about my great friend, Melissa.
Melissa and I met at our current workplace. Melissa and I worked in different departments, but we were both members of our company’s Volunteer Committee. We just kind of hit it off and would talk here and there but mostly we’d laugh hysterically together. In the summer of 2011, I had the wonderful privilege to join Melissa’s team and she became my supervisor. Melissa is one of those people who you never hear anything bad about. She is loved by everyone. Through the last year, I have had the great opportunity to get to know Melissa better. I can tell you, my original thoughts of Melissa’s character is true. She is one of the most selfless people I have ever met. She gives until it hurts and keeps on giving. She is hard-working, determined, sensitive, caring, loving, devoted, funny, intellegent…the list could go on and on.
One of the things I love most about Melissa is the fact that I know that I can tell her anything, and she will be honest will me. I often say that a true friend is one that will tell you the truth about yourself. Melissa and I have that kind of relationship. We can say the hard things to each other. Throughout the last year, we have cried, laughed, celebrate, disagreed, shared secrets, had new experiences, and learned from each other. She has made me a better person. She has encouraged me when I was down. She has laughed and laughed and laughed with me, and sometimes, at me. My life has definitely been enriched because of her, and I am a changed person because she is my friend.
Thank you Melissa, for being a forever friend. I cherish you.
